Quirky Things to do in Queensland

There are a lot of popular things to do in Queensland including snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, sunbathing on the beaches of Gold Coast and exploring Daintree Rainforest. But what if you want to do something a little more unusual and unique? Below are just a few quirky things to do in Queensland, Australia

Explore the Undara lava tubes

Lava tubes are underground passageways formed by lava from volcanoes thousands of years ago. Undara is home to some of the longest and largest lava tubes in the world. It’s possible to take tours through them. If you love caves, this is definitely an attraction worth visiting.

Play some golf at Lake Fred Tritton

Lake Fred Tritton in Richmond is a lake boasting lots of activities that are perfect for families ranging from kayaking to a waterpark. However, the most unique attraction is its golf course which sports only one hole. The hole is on an island in the middle of the lake - many golfers come here to challenge themselves to a hole-in-one.

Bathe in a Champagne Pool on Fraser Island

Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island. It has many interesting sights including a shipwreck and crystal clear lakes, however the most unique attraction is the island’s ‘champagne pools’. These are volcanic rock pools that you can bathe in - they get their name from the bubbles found in them caused by waves hitting the rock pools.

Rent a luxury boat off the coast of Hamilton Island

Hamilton Island is known for its beautiful white beache. You’ll find a great range of luxurious private accommodation in Hamilton Island. If you’re looking for some alternative luxury accommodation, one great option could be to rent a boat. A luxury boat could be perfect for celebrating a family event in style or a memorable trip with friends (such as a bachelor or bachelorette party).

See the Great Barrier Reef via submarine

There are many ways to see the Great Barrier Reef. Most people go snorkelling or diving. For a more unique option, consider taking a submarine tour of the Great Barrier Reef. This can be a great way to explore the reefs up close without getting wet.

Visit the largest butterfly sanctuary in the southern hemisphere

The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is located in Kuranda and is the largest in the southern hemisphere. It is home to over 1500 butterflies. Kuranda’s popular Skyrail and Scenic Railway Station are not too far away and are also worth doing while in the area.
